| In 1972 the Sacred
Congregation for Divine Worship by Decree of the Second Vatican
Council instituted the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) |
| |
What is the
R.C.I.A.?
The R.C.I.A. is fundamentally the process through which adults are
fully initiated into the Catholic faith community. Those taking part
in this journey will share their faith experiences with one another
and we, as a community of faith, will share our living experience of
the Catholic faith with them.
If you are aware of an individual who has expressed an interest in
your Catholic faith, be an angel, inform them of this process and
encourage them to call Laurie or Kay at (724) 752-1271. Better yet,
call for them and offer to accompany them to the initial gatherings
of inquiry and welcome. Definite time for the R.C.I.A. sessions will
be set according to the schedules of the group members. |

Is the R.C.I.A.
for me?
If you answer YES to any of the following questions, the R.C.I.A may
be for you. Are you?:
• An unbaptized person?
• Baptized as Catholic but were never confirmed or received Holy
Eucharist?
• Baptized, made First Eucharist, but had no formal instruction
since receiving those sacraments?
• Of another Christian faith, but interested in learning about the
Catholic faith?
• A person wishing to become a member of the Catholic faith
community?
Anyone with questions and/or wishing to become a part of the R.C.I.A.
process may call Laurie Nocera or Kay Ann Bellissimo at (724)
752-1271. |

R.C.I.A. Adapted
for Children
This process is specifically for children between the ages of 8 and
16 years of age who are not baptized. "These children seek Christian
initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or,
with parental permission on their own initiative. Such children are
capable of receiving and nurturing a personal faith and of
recognizing an obligation in conscience. " Like the R.C.I.A., this
process is a journey of faith leading to their full initiation into
the Catholic faith community. It is adapted both to their spiritual
progress, that is, the children's growth in faith, and to the
catechetical instruction they receive. Accordingly, their initiation
is extended over a period of at least two years (if need be
extended), before they receive the sacraments.
If you know a child of the age of reason who is showing an interest
in the Catholic faith please call Laurie Nocera at (724)752-1271 for
more information. |
